One of the joys of blogging for me is that I have met some very wonderful people.
One of those people is Misty from Beautiful Ashes. In fact, we have Skyped on a few occasions. She is one of those people I instantly felt I had known all of my life.
So when she approached me about reviewing her newest book Dear Wife – Letters from a Helpmeet, I was excited and honored to do it!
In Dear Wife, Misty shares wisdom that she has learned in her 8 years of marriage to women who are struggling with sorrow, depression, stress, distraction and exhaustion. She eloquently reminds us that Jesus must be source of our joy and to lay down our expectations so that we are free to love the way God intended for us to love.
This book particularly spoke to me in the letters to the overwhelmed and stressed wife. She says, “Have you gotten yourself into a place where your tower’s a little shaky? Take the time to pray and ask God which “block(s)” need to be removed.” and “If we do not take the time to address the origin of our stress then we take the risk of destroying our marriage, our job and many other parts of our lives.”
I admit to being guilty at times of being far to quick to jump at opportunities without reflecting, praying or consulting my husband. This comes from years of living on my own and being far to independent (plus being single meant I had a lot of time on my hands). I was once again reminded that I am, in fact, not an island and a minor decision could mean a major strain on my family.
I highly recommend this book to every wife. It is simple but profound and a wonderful reminder to us of how we can can take responsibility for ourselves in making our homes a joyous and peaceful haven for our families!
And while you’re purchasing Dear Wife, you may want to check out her first book Unfulfilled as well. You can find both of her books by visiting this affiliate link – which also helps to support A Little R & R if you make a purchase.
