What child doesn’t love to help mom in the kitchen?
My kids absolutely love it! Whether its washing peeled potatoes, or helping to dump ingredients into a bowl.
One thing my boys love to help with is making bread. The cool thing is that the measurements and ingredients can be divided enough that each boy gets to help the same amount of times. And all moms know how important this is!!
And there are few things more satisfying in the fall than thick slices of homemade bread slathered in butter and honey. Add some cinnamon and sugar….and wow!
So today I’m sharing with you my recipe for homemade bread and offering a free printable recipe card.
Perfect Homemade Bread
1 cup water
1/3 cup milk
pkg yeast (or 2 TB)
1 TB sugar
1 tsp salt
4 cups flour
2 TB oil
In a bread machine:
Put ingredients in the bread machine pan in order listed. Choose the program for dough only. When the program is done, take out the dough and divide in half.
In a large mixing bowl, mix the yeast with warmed water. Once activated add milk, salt, sugar and oil. Mix well. Slowly add flour one cup at a time mixing well after each. Once dough grown difficult to mix, turn out onto floured surface and kneed in remaining flour.
Kneed 5-6 minutes. Place in well greased bowl, cover, and place in warm place. Let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
Pat or roll out dough in rectangle until approximately 1/4 in thick. Starting with long side, roll up in a log sealing as you go. Fold up the sides and seal all around. Place in greased bread pans, cover and let rise 1 hour. Bake at 350 for 40 minutes or until top is golden brown.
Remove from pans and let cool on a cooling rack.
