I have a Christmas Eve tradition:
Christmas movie marathon! I start with the kids’ favorite Christmas cartoons when they get up: The Toy that Saved Christmas, The Star of Christmas, Barney: A Very Merry Christmas, the Bears that Saved Christmas and more.
Then I move on to my own personal favorite Christmas movies that I simply must watch every year.
Don’t get me wrong, Christmas Eve isn’t the only time of year I watch these movies. But they all get watched on Christmas Eve!
My top 5 Christmas Movies
Okay – so I don’t believe in Santa and never did. Growing up we learned about St. Nicholas and the wonderful things he did for people. But we were taught that Santa is not real and that our parents give the presents….and God provides the money. That said, this movie (The original….you know, Maureen O’Hara – because no one acts like Maureen O’Hara!) is still precious and iconically Christmasy!
4. Fallen Angel
If you’ve never watched this movie, I have three words for you: 1. Hallmark 2.Gary 3.Sinise. Are you hooked yet? Hallmark is known for their wonderful Christmas movies (and sometimes downright silly ones…but we’re just going to talk about the wonderful ones. M’kay?). It has all the elements: Snow, romance, and an old fashioned merry go ’round.
I absolutely love this made-for-TV movie. It features Jack Palance, and I’ve always liked him in old westerns. This isn’t a western, it’s a sweet, romantic Christmas movie, but he plays a crusty grandpa with a soft heart. Ann Jillian is the perfect role of an old maid town mayor who saves the town hero.
Okay – I wont lie. This post by Stephanie from Fit Found Me caught my eye because…well, I’m over 40 and I’ve been trying to lose weight (I’m only about 20 lbs from my goal, and once I get this gall bladder out, I’ll be getting back to kicking them to the curb!)
This is actually a series, so if you’re over 40 and have “more to love”, you may want to check it out. She talks about the whyit’s hard for us, the medical obstacles, nutrition and exercise.
