So I was watching one of my besties’ scopes the other day, in which she mentioned that she does not allow screen time before school.
I will admit to a major screen time struggle in our home. I’ve blogged about it and admittedly there are times that are worse than others.
There are times when the TV is on much more than it should, and others when it is hardly on at all.
But just that very morning we began our usual routine with a morning cartoon and chocolate milk (my kids’ version of “morning coffee).
And what ensued was what often does: one cartoon turns into two, then breakfast…..then I remember the laundry waiting to be done so I rush in to start a load…and then “just one more cartoon while I quickly do up these dishes…”.
And the school day that should have started at 8:30 starts at 10:30 and runs to naptime, and then I wonder why my kids can’t rest, when their brains are still buzzing with all the information they just learned.
The idea that kids shouldn’t look at screens before school wasn’t a foreign one to me, I just hadn’t had the kick in the pants I needed to institute the rule in our home.
Until Mandy’s scope, that is.
So, I decided to start today!
Here is what morning #1 looks like.
Then I decided to do a spontaneous scope about it, and challenge other moms to Screen Free Mornings.
and use the hash-tag #ScreenFreeMornings and let’s encourage each other in this!
Here’s my scope from this morning!!
I hope you join in!
