Very true indeed. Sometimes if I turn it all the way off and stick it in a drawer, I swear I feel lighter. The problem is I do that like once a year. I think it's been two or three days since I picked up my Bible and so that's a little bit too long. I guess I forgot to get out of my way.

We should all do that more often. I love the drawer idea. I am going to totally do that!

Every time I sit down to read, my mind immediately goes somewhere else! I read two chapters and I have no idea what I just read. I mean, that is so frustrating. It takes me forever to hang on to anything. I know some of that has to do with my brain injury, but it is so frustrating. Any ideas or does anyone else have that issue?? Help!

Yes I do. First, please know that what you’re facing is very common. The enemy wants us to think we’re the only ones having this problem, but it is actually very common.

First - don’t try to read so much at one time. It is hard for the brain to retain that much in one sitting anyway.

And the point of reading the Bible is to understand it and for it to change us.

Step one: read until ONE thing stands out. STOP. Write it down on a piece of paper or note card.

Step two: read until a SECOND thing stands out. STOP. Write it down on your piece of paper or note card.

Step three: read until a THIRD thing stands out. STOP. Write it down on your piece of paper or note card.

Step four: YOU ARE DONE FOR TODAY.

Even if it was only 3 verses. You are done.

Take what you wrote down and read it. Study it. Meditate on it. Let it get into your heart.

And then do the same thing tomorrow.

Wow! That really is what I needed to acknowledge and I think now I can do it. Thanks for your help

I am so glad! This is why it can be so good and encouraging to others to be authentic (when it's comfortable for us), because we're never the only one struggling. For every struggle we have, at least one other person (if not many, many others) are silently struggling with the same thing.

When we hide because we feel ashamed it doesn't help ourselves and it can’t help others who have the same struggles!🫣

I'm so glad!! <3 I love it that our God is not complicated, and He doesn't expect more from us than what we can reasonably do. <3

Thanks for sharing this! It confirms what God has been teaching me the last several months. I recently created an article about this very thing too and the hard lessons I’m learning. https://anamurby.substack.com/p/too-distracted-to-finish-the-title?r=5ticwq&utm_medium=ios

I needed this! I am always more at peace when my phone is "lost".

Oh yes! Same! Lose the phone, put on some soft worship music - and that simple thing is so life-changing!

Such a beautiful piece. Keeps us aware honestly just the expression of my thoughts in writing.
