One of the greatest battles I’ve fought as a Christian wasn’t a battle with circumstances.
It wasn’t a battle with people or even a battle with temptation.
It was a battle over identity.
Not because I didn’t know what the Bible said.
I did.
✔️ I had read the verses.
✔️ I had highlighted them.
✔️ I had heard sermons about them.
But there is a huge difference between knowing something intellectually and actually living as though it is true.
For years, I struggled with insecurity, fear, self-doubt, and feelings of inadequacy.
This battle was enough to keep me from fully walking in confidence, to make me second-guess myself.
I would wonder if God could really use someone like me.
Looking back, I realize that most of those struggles were rooted in one simple problem:
I had forgotten who I was.
Or perhaps more accurately, I had allowed other voices to become louder than God’s voice.
The enemy is incredibly skilled at this.
He doesn’t always attack us with obvious lies.
Sometimes he simply reminds us of our failures.
✔️ Our weaknesses.
✔️ Our past mistakes.
✔️ Our limitations.
✔️ The things other people have said about us.
✔️ The labels we’ve carried for years.
Before long, we begin defining ourselves by those things instead of by what God says.
But Scripture paints an entirely different picture.
God says we are chosen.
Loved.
Forgiven.
Accepted.
Redeemed.
New creations in Christ.
More than conquerors.
His workmanship.
His beloved children.
The challenge isn’t finding verses that tell us these things.
The challenge is believing them deeply enough that they begin shaping the way we think, act, pray, and live.
That’s why Scripture memorization has become such an important part of my walk with God.
There have been seasons when simply reading a verse wasn’t enough.
I needed to carry it with me.
Meditate on it.
Pray through it.
Repeat it until God’s truth became louder than my fears.
And I’ve watched God use that simple practice to transform my thinking in ways I never expected.
The more I meditate on God’s truth, the less power the enemy’s lies seem to have.
The more I focus on who Christ says I am, the less control insecurity has over my life.
Because identity changes everything.
When you know who you are in Christ, you pray differently.
You face trials differently.
You serve differently.
You approach life differently.
You stop striving to become someone valuable and begin living from the value Christ has already given you.
That’s why I recently put together a free printable resource featuring some of my favorite Bible verses about our identity in Christ.
They’re verses I return to again and again whenever I need to remind myself of who God says I am.
If you’ve been struggling with insecurity, fear, self-doubt, or simply need a fresh reminder of your identity in Christ, I think you’ll find it helpful.
