There are days when your body is tired…but your mind refuses to be still.
You finally sit down. The house is quiet. You should feel relief, but instead, your thoughts keep moving:
replaying conversations
anticipating problems
carrying things that haven’t even happened yet.
And somewhere in the middle of it all, you find yourself asking:
Why can’t I just rest?
Not just physically.
But deeply.
Spiritually.
This has been me lately. Too many long days and too many short nights.
Because anxiety doesn’t always show up loudly, sometimes it looks responsible. Productive. Even spiritual.
It whispers to us:
“I just need to think this through one more time…”
“I should be prepared…”
“I don’t want to miss something important…”
But underneath all of that activity, there’s often something deeper going on.
Something we don’t always want to admit.
What if anxiety isn’t the real issue?
What if it’s actually pointing to something else?
Not something to shame us, but something God gently wants to bring into the light.
Because the truth is, we don’t just struggle to rest because life is busy.
We struggle to rest because it’s hard to release control. Ouch. I know.
It’s hard to trust God with the parts of our lives that feel uncertain, fragile, or unfinished.
And that tension keeps our minds running… even when our bodies stop.
But God never asked us to carry life this way.
The kind of rest He invites us into isn’t just about slowing down.
It’s about surrender.
It’s about learning, little by little, to loosen our grip on the things we were never meant to hold so tightly.
And that’s not something that happens overnight.
I wrote more about this—about where anxiety really comes from and what it looks like to begin moving toward true rest—in this post:

If this is something you’ve been wrestling with, you’re not alone. This is where I was stuck for years, cycling round and round.
And it’s my weak spot. The enemy knows he can tempt me here.
Here’s what you need to know: You don’t have to force yourself into rest.
Sometimes, the first step is simply being honest about what’s underneath the anxiety… and inviting God into that place.
That’s where real rest begins.

Tell me about it! Why is it so hard to let go though? I know that I should, but I find it so difficult to do it (trust God to fix things). It's a struggle for sure.
Wonderful piece btw.
