Have you ever looked around at the world—or even at the church—and wondered, “Am I the only one who still believes this?”
It can be unsettling when biblical convictions that once seemed clear suddenly become controversial. You may begin wondering whether standing firmly on God’s Word makes you judgmental, legalistic, or simply out of touch.
And when everyone around you seems to be moving in another direction, it’s easy to start questioning what you believe.
This is where renewing our minds becomes especially important.
We don’t renew our minds by allowing the culture around us to determine what is true. We renew our minds by continually bringing our thinking back to God’s Word.
Elijah Thought He Was Alone
Elijah understood this feeling.
After God dramatically demonstrated His power on Mount Carmel, Elijah became afraid and ran for his life. When God met him, Elijah essentially told Him, “I alone am left.”
But Elijah wasn’t alone.
God had preserved seven thousand people who had not bowed their knees to Baal.
Elijah simply couldn’t see them.
That is an important reminder for us.
Sometimes our perception of what is happening around us isn’t the whole story.
We can look around and think, “Everyone has abandoned biblical truth.”
But God sees what we cannot see.
God’s Word Doesn’t Change
Church culture changes.
Worship styles change. Language changes. Traditions change. Different generations wrestle with different questions.
But God’s Word doesn’t change.
And renewing our minds means allowing Scripture—not cultural pressure, fear, popularity, or even our own assumptions—to shape what we believe.
That doesn’t mean returning to legalism.
Grace was never intended to make obedience unnecessary.
Biblical faithfulness also doesn’t mean becoming proud, harsh, or unwilling to listen. In fact, the closer we walk with Jesus, the more willing we should be to let Him correct us.
We aren’t the standard.
God is.
Faithfulness Requires Humility
Being faithful when you feel like you’re in the minority isn’t easy.
It can feel lonely.
It can be misunderstood.
And sometimes it requires us to examine our own hearts just as carefully as we examine the culture around us.
Where have we compromised?
Where are we following the crowd?
Where do we need to obey God?
Where have we confused biblical obedience with legalism?
Renewing our minds means continually returning to God’s truth while remaining humble enough to let that truth change us, too.
You may not see the entire remnant.
But God does.
You may feel alone, but you don’t have to let that feeling determine what you believe.
Keep your eyes on Jesus. Keep your heart tender. Keep returning to God’s Word.
And remember: God sees His people, even when we can’t.
