For years, I thought the biggest battles in my life were the circumstances around me.
But one day, the Lord showed me something that changed the way I looked at my spiritual battles.
My biggest battles were actually happening inside my mind.
I struggled with the effects of abuse, chronic illness, fatigue, feelings of inadequacy, perfectionism, anxiety, and depression.
There were seasons when I questioned myself constantly and analyzed every conversation I walked away from.
Am I doing enough?
Why can’t I handle this?
What’s wrong with me?
What if I fail?
What if people are disappointed in me?
And the more I listened to those thoughts, the more real they seemed.
I didn’t understand then that a thought isn’t necessarily the truth simply because I think it.
The Battle for Your Mind
Scripture tells us:
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2
Renewing our minds isn’t about pretending negative thoughts don’t exist.
It’s about learning to recognize the thoughts that don’t agree with God’s Word, and then replacing them with what God says is true.
I started memorizing Scripture.
I meditated on it.
I repeated God’s truth when my emotions grew toxic and negative.
When I felt inadequate, I reminded myself of who I am in Christ.
When anxiety told me I was powerless, I went back to what Scripture said about God’s strength being made perfect in my weakness.
When perfectionism told me I had to get everything right, I rehearsed the names of those in Hebrews’ “Hall of Faith” who were flawed and broken - and reminded myself that God still used them for His glory.
When circumstances made me feel defeated, I learned to bring my thoughts back under the authority of God’s Word.
And slowly, something changed.
The circumstances didn’t change. What changed was the level of peace and rest in my own heart and mind.
And when my thinking changed, my responses changed.
My emotions changed.
My confidence in God changed.
My whole entire life changed.
And I have never been the same.
That’s why I’m so passionate about teaching women how to renew their minds through Scripture.
Because I’ve experienced the freedom that comes when God’s truth overcomes the lies we’ve been told.
But Knowing Isn’t Always Enough
Here’s what I’ve discovered after years of teaching Bible studies:
We can know what Scripture says and still struggle to apply it to our everyday thoughts.
We can underline verses.
Save Bible studies.
Listen to sermons.
Read books.
And still find ourselves lying awake at night believing the same old thoughts.
Sometimes what we need isn’t more information.
We need someone to walk with us while we practice.
That’s why I created Walk With Me.
Come Walk With Me
Walk With Me is my private, paid Substack Chat where I’m personally coaching women through a step-by-step process of renewing their minds through Scripture.
Each day, we’ll take one small step.
We’ll identify the thoughts we’re struggling with.
We’ll examine them against God’s Word.
We’ll meditate on Scripture.
We’ll practice replacing lies with truth.
And I’ll check in with you throughout the process with prompts, questions, encouragement, and practical exercises.
This isn’t another intensive Bible study that gives you a mountain of material to complete.
It’s ongoing coaching for real life.
And I’ve created brand-new renewing-the-mind worksheets specifically for Walk With Me.
These are resources you won’t find on my blog or anywhere else. They’re available exclusively to paid Walk With Me members.
Because I don’t want to simply tell you that your mind can be renewed.
I want to walk beside you while you learn how.
If you’ve been struggling with thoughts that have controlled you for years, I want you to know something I wish I had understood much earlier:
You don’t have to believe every thought that enters your mind.
God’s Word is truth.
And your mind can be renewed.
One Scripture.
One thought.
One day at a time.
